A New Look for a New Year!
2013 has flung wide it's magical doors and we are well and truly on our way into what I believe will be a year of ancient promises fulfilled, forgotten dreams restored and wild adventures of discovery.
It is my personal aim to faithfully capture and record at least some of these moments, whether minute and seemingly insignificant or dramatic and grand, on these pages. In my view, if it touches my heart, it deserves a mention!
Entries will take the form of blog posts, iPhone pics and quick news updates...using any means to celebrate the gift of each new day.
I invite you to join me, and to let me have your thoughts and comments. It's always good to have some feedback and meet new friends along the way!

Music feeds my soulThe discovery many years ago, that every piece of music I listened to impacted my soul, caused me to consider listening choices more carefully.
I find that there are seasons for certain songs or pieces of music, times I get 'stuck' on piece that somehow captures my heart and helps give expression to my emotions, helping me to process and even make peace with unsettling circumstances. Intense? Yes, it can be. Freeing? Yes, almost always! From time to time I'll share some of my all-time favourites on this page. Enjoy! |

A New Year is always a natural time to take stock, isn't it? We look around and start throwing out anything
old, often replaced by Christmas gifts just received, and enjoy the catharsis that the new order of things brings. This year we've been given a greater opportunity to clear out the clutter.
Moving house is both revitalising and painful. It feels great to throw away bags of unnecessary 'baggage', but it is painstaking work, well for me it is. I am a sentimental old hoarder with a conscience! This means I know it needs to go, but my heart aches as I remember each emotional attachment and then make the tough decision to part with it anyway.
I'm proud to say I've done 'ok' these past few weeks. We, my ever-patient husband and I, have sifted and sorted and all that is left are the 'practical, useable and the necessary' things, as well as those items we have chosen to keep - mainly things belonging to the children.
Books are my downfall. How is it possible to 'throw out' a book? Books draw and mesmerise - they call to me and I am powerless to resist. Perhaps next time I'll give more away...

Book's I've read and loved
Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life by Anne Lamott
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I was embarrassed to find that I'd not reviewed this book, even though it was more than two years ago since I received and read my copy.
Anne Lamott struck me as a wise soul as soon as I began to read this memoir/inspirational book on writing and, well, life in general. There were tearful moments, laugh-out-loud moments and several 'aha!' moments throughout the book which is both personal and universally relevant.
I'm finally making a stab at 'proper' writing, that is, a determined effort at 'I'm going to sit here and write something each day' kind of stab, largely because of the advice and sheer 'get-off-your-proverbial-and-do-something!' coaching through her book, and dare I say, all her writings.
Thank you, Anne Lamott, for giving so generously to those of us who aspire to write in a way that strings words together from the heart that will touch others forever. Like you do.
